Botworld Adventure is a turn-based RPG with a unique combat system that plays very similar to the popular Pokemon series. You can select your character and then choose two out of three types of weapons you wish to equip. These weapons vary in attack and defense. However, they all makeup for it in some way. The game has a variety of enemies placed strategically around the map so you can encounter them randomly while exploring or completing quests. The battles take place on a grid, where each character occupies one square on the grid and is separated into two rows (left and right). The player moves their party members around the grid by tapping on their square or forcing them to an adjacent square. The game will also alert you when an enemy has moved into your line of sight, so you have time to react accordingly. The player can also use items such as healing potions, bombs, staves, etc., during battle to increase damage output or reduce damage received from enemies. With this combat system, the game is very similar to Pokemon. However, it’s a lot more strategic and fast-paced.
The game’s story is set in a world where humans are driven away by demons, and the only way to stop them is to summon heroes from another planet. The game is split into three chapters, and each chapter has one of the three characters at their respective chapter’s end and must be completed in order. Each character has their own unique abilities, weapons, and skills used throughout the game. After completing the story mode for each character, you can play through their respective chapters again with a new set of challenges that you can complete to unlock new weapons and items.
The game also features an online multiplayer component where you can play with other people (up to four players) on your friend list. You can also exchange items between each other during battle by using the “Trade” button on your screen.
The game also features a “Time Attack” mode where you can play through the game’s levels as fast as possible to get a high score. The more time you take, the higher your score will be.
Pros:
Solid gameplay, great variety of weapons
Wide range of characters to play through
Excellent graphics and sound effects
Well, thought-out level design and pacing throughout the game. No level is too long or too short. You are constantly challenged to do better with each new level. Also, no level is designed so that you can get a “perfect” score by simply holding on to your weapon until the end and then restarting. The levels are designed so that each time you complete them, you will be presented with new challenges for your next attempt.
Cons:
Bad voice acting, especially in the cut scenes. The voice acting is so bad that it’s actually funny at times. After a while, you can get used to it, but it definitely detracts from the overall experience.
No “Continues” or “Continue” feature. If you run out of lives during a level and you have a weapon that will continue your life (such as the “Abareru” or the “Reru”), then you are basically screwed. You will have to restart the level from scratch unless you can find another weapon that can continue your life.
There are no passwords for this game, so if you lose all of your lives, you will have to start over from scratch again with no continuation on every level in the game.
Conclusion:
This game is worth the money if you are a fan of the “Contra” series, but it’s definitely not for everyone. It’s a very challenging game, and there is no way to cheat your way through it. If you can get past that aspect of the game, the challenge will be gratifying. I’ve played this game many times, and each time it’s slightly different from the last. The levels feel fresh every time I play them, and I’m always excited to see what new challenge awaits me on my next attempt.
